International Women's Day 2009 -
Community Involvement

The Women’s Commission, since its establishment in January 2001, has celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with official receptions for members of women’s groups and various communities in Hong Kong. Opportunity has also been taken on each occasion to involve as many interested parties as possible in the event and related activities with a view to sustaining and expanding the public attention on the well-being and interests of women.

As in previous years, the Women’s Commission will once again compile an information leaflet on NGO activities to celebrate IWD. The leaflet aims to collect and collate information on activities to be held around the time of IWD (in the month of March 2009 or afterwards) for the community at large or for women. The Commission will publicise these events by means of information leaflets, our website and/or other publicity means where possible.

You are cordially invited to participate in the activity above. Details of the programme are enclosed for your reference. Deadline for participation is 30 January 2009. Should you have any queries, please feel free to contact Ms. Ida TSE at 2136 2726 of the Secretariat for details.

Collection of NGO Information to provide a platform for better understanding and communication

The Women's Commission receives public enquires from time to time about profiles and contact information of local women's groups. In order to provide a platform to enhance public's understanding of NGOs with a women related interest, and to facilitate communication among NGOs and individuals concerning women related issues, the Commission would like to maintain a database of organizations that are interested in women related issues. You are therefore cordially invited to complete and return the enclosed NGO Information Collection Form.

Information collected will be used for the distribution of the Commission's and other women related information. General information (i.e. Sections B to C of the Form) of local women's groups will be listed in the Commission's website to give the public a better picture of local NGOs with a women related interest.

In addition to the above-mentioned database, the Commission's website also consists of a "Women Services Directory" to help publicizing women related activities/services. You may want to register to the Directory and make use of the facility available as well.
