Conference on Together We Build a Harmonious Community

On 18 and 19 June 2006, the Women's Commission hosted a high-profile conference on Together We Build a Harmonious Community.  The Conference, which attracted over 400 delegates from Hong Kong and the Mainland, reviewed the Commission's work in our first five years, and provided an opportunity for people from all sectors who were concerned about women's issues to discuss issues related to the well-being of women and to explore future directions and strategies to promote gender equality and the status of women.

Officiated by the Chief Executive Mr Donald Tsang, and the then Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Madam Gu Xiulian, the two-day Conference featured two plenary sessions on "gender mainstreaming and women's participation in decision-making" and "social partnership and empowerment", as well as lively discussions during breakout sessions.  A mini-exhibition was also set up alongside the Conference to showcase the achievements and projects related to the development of women by social service agencies and women's groups.

Pre-conference events were also held, including a film show on Women with Dreams and post-film show discussion, and a sharing session on men's participation in families.  Over a hundred people attended these events and enthusiastically shared their views.
