Donation of Exhibition Materials to the China Women and Children's Museum
To preserve and showcase materials related to the development of Hong Kong women, and to recognise women's contribution to the Hong Kong society, the Women's Commission (WoC) is planning to collate and contribute exhibition materials on the "Development and Contribution of Hong Kong Women" to the China Women and Children's Museum (the Museum), which is scheduled to be opened in Beijing before the 2008 Olympics. It is the first national museum dedicated to women and children in China. The WoC is also planning to organise a local exhibition on the exhibition materials collected for the purposes of public education and empowerment of women before sending them to the Museum for permanent display. The local exhibition will be held from 29 November to 3 December 2007 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Members of different sectors of the society are cordially invited to donate relevant materials to enrich the content of the exhibition. Details of the donation is as follow:
- Targeted items include:
- Any items that could represent a significant experiences of women in Hong Kong, particularly in the areas of work, family, education and participation in the society during different periods of time.
- Any real objects that could reflect the development, contribution and cultural life of women in Hong Kong during different periods of time.
- Any real objects that could reflect the cultural life of girl-child in Hong Kong during different periods of time.
- Examples of targeted items include different kinds of working and leisure outfits, school uniforms, appliances and tools, books (including textbooks and comics books, etc.), toys, photographs, and documents of different periods of times.
- Items to be donated should be in relatively good condition (such as with recognizable shape and/or scripts) and suitable for display.
- Donation procedures:
- Send via e-mail (womenmuseum@cuhk.edu.hk) digital picture(s) and short description(s) of item(s) you would like to donate to the Gender Research Centre of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (the GRC Project Team), which is commissioned by the WoC to coordinate the collection. Please note that the real objects will NOT be collected at this stage.
- The short description should include information such as year / period of time the item is being used or produced, size, historical significance, etc., so that the GRC Project Team can identify and categorize the item
- Donation period: 19 July to 3 September 2007
- Considering the limited area for display, not all donations will eventually be accepted and the donated items may not be displayed. The GRC Project Team will contact donors of selected items by the end of September 2007 for details of pick-up, and a letter of appreciation will be issued separately.
